Dormant seeding season is quickly approaching…are you ready for it? Dormant seeding is a great way to remove work load from the busy spring season and it mimics nature, as seed in a ‘natural’ setting is produced in the fall and lies dormant over the winter.
How do you ensure you’re making the most of the dormant seeding season? Here are a few Dos and Don’ts to keep in mind:
DO
- Have a plan
- Dormant seeding season is short. Having a plan in place allows you to hit the ground running and maximize your efficiency in the field.
- Organize, organize, organize!
- Having your office and field pre-work done prior to the seeding window opening is essential to ensure you have the seed you need on time. Finalize your seed plans, align and communicate with all those involved, do pre-seeding field site visits, and prepare your route. The more you organize now, the better seeding will go when the seeding window opens.
DON’T
- Not have a plan
Pre-planning may not always be possible. However, if you can have a start on a plan, it will lead to more success when the window opens for dormant seeding season. Plan early so you can capitalize on this time in the field and enter winter on a high note!
